Our first centre is based in a small village in the South of Cambodia which was one of the final strongholds of the Khmer Rouge army and only became peaceful in 1998.

Now the area is peaceful and people are focussed on improving their living standards, but the legacy of war is still apparent with many people suffering from PTSD and a high rate of alcoholism and domestic violence. Many parents do not value education and this area has some of the worst national exam results in the country.

FunkyJunk Recycled initiated a partnership with the community development NGO Bridges Across Borders South East Asia and trained a group of 24 members of the community - identified as amongst the poorest of the poor due to a lack of land, livestock and food security.
