FunkyJunk was started by Carpe Diem Travel, a non-profit tour operator that provides direct and tangible benefits to the destinations they visit.

Cambodia is Carpe Diem’s most popular destination, and one with which its owners have an ongoing personal relationship, having lived and worked there for many years.

Poor education in environmental awareness, lack of incentives from local government and a rapidly expanding population have resulted in plastic bag waste covering more and more of the countryside. Cheap and non-biodegradable, plastic bags can cause death to livestock (through choking) and health hazards to humans (by clogging waterways and drains).
